Frequently Asked Questions

Is massage sexual?

Sometimes but not here.

We provide 100% professional, therapeutic massage and bodywork. We have a Zero Tolerance Policy for sexual boundary violations.

A note about erections… An erection is a physiological reaction that sometimes occurs when a lot of blood is moved toward the genital area. A few therapists are uncomfortable when this happens, but most therapists understand that this is a natural reaction to massage, not to anything sexual occurring. However, if, in addition to the erection, sexual behavior is exhibited by the Receiver, then an erection is not okay and services will be terminated.

Do you use scents/fragrances/chemicals?

We use all natural cleaning products and eco-based laundry detergent. We do use therapeutic grade essential oils in the office. We have many clients who report as “heavily sensitive to chemicals” and have no reactions in the spcae. You are also welcome to request the first appointment of the days and notify us so that we can prepare the room.

What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

I require you to fill out a health history form. Afterwards I will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. I may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition, and to see if you have any presenting complaints.

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

What do I wear during the massage?

For a full body massage, most people undress completely. However, you may choose to wear underwear or whatever level of clothing you are comfortable with. I will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times. The area being worked on will be uncovered, but you should always feel secure and comfortable.

What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. If I want you to adjust your position, she I will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. The table temperature and face cradle are adjustable.  It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

How will a massage feel?

It usually depends on the techniques used. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes (effleurage) that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that I can use another approach or technique.

Is a massage always appropriate?

No, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. That’s why it is necessary that you fill out the health history forms and before you begin your session. I will ask general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. It is very important that you me of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session.

What if I have experienced trauma?

Everyone’s experience with trauma is different. Communication with Safe, health touch can help us to heal/process trauma.

How long will a massage treatment last?

The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation. Always allow relaxation time prior to and after the session.

How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. Massage therapists sometimes recommend a hot Epsom salt bath that encourages the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from the massage treatment.

Sometimes working with an injured area might be painful, but even that should be within a good tolerance level… think “good hurt” vs. “bad hurt”. If you are not used to receiving massage, it is similar to not being used to working out. Just as you can feel sore after a good workout, you might feel a little sore after a massage, but that feeling should not last more than a day or two.

Am I supposed to tip?

Tipping is a matter of personal discretion. Some of my clients do tip, some do not. You will get the same level of excellent service whether you tip or not. Tips are never required, but always appreciated. One of the best ways to “tip” me is to refer your friends and family to me for massage or energy work!

Is it OK to talk during my session?

That is totally up to you. I will occasionally ask a few questions, pertaining to your comfort level, and how you are feeling. I have learned that some people relax by talking, others prefer to have their massage in silence. It’s your massage – you get to decide if you want to talk to not. Often times people will start out talking, then “drift away” as the massage goes on. Whatever helps you to relax the most is best. I generally do some guided meditation, talk as begin to help you get out of the mind and into the body.
